Red. The one colour I deem acceptable to own, that I have always been drawn to. Something about the boldness and depth of it appeals to me, such an eye catching colour that demands to be seen. It has many meanings and connotations in a wide array of cultures, whether it be danger, luck or passion. And the first thing that comes to my mind when linked to red, is lipstick. It is undoubtably the most iconic shade worn by many throughout history and can symbolise different things. Wearing this powerful colour can instill confidence and make you feel sexy.

The brightest of my reds, this one by Saint Laurent is reserved for special occasions. When you treat yourself to designer lipstick you want the packaging to be chic and elegant, this one does not disappoint with its pristine gold case. The consistency of the lipstick itself is so smooth with great colour pay off to create a classic red lip. I typically go for matte lipsticks however the satin finish on this one is a beautiful touch.

The velvet matte lip pencil by Nars is renowned. The convenience and functionality of this product make it famous, not only is it a lip pencil but also a lipstick, something that every girl should have in their collection. Despite being a matte product it still has a creamy texture that will last for hours and not feel drying on the lips. Cruella is a gorgeous bright shade that’s perfect for creating an easy red lip, you can see why it’s a cult classic.

The perfect middle red, vivid whilst not being too bright. Mac lipsticks are notorious and Russian Red is one that I had to get. Mac Cosmetics’ huge range of lipsticks come in a variety of finishes so it can be a daunting decision when you’re in their store but this one stood out to me straight away. The blueish undertones make it a well rounded shade and the matte finish won me over.

As you can see Mac lipsticks have a habit of making their way into every girls makeup collection more than once. This deep shade is darker than the last and comes in an amplified creme finish. Potentially it’s more of an autumnal/winter shade but you could wear this all year round and make an impact. As with all Mac lipsticks this is extremely pigmented and stays in tact for hours.

If you want a luxury lipstick look no further than Charlotte Tilbury. This bewitching shade Opium Noir was gifted to me for Christmas and engraved with my name. So not only does this lipstick hold emotional value to me, furthermore the product itself is a dream to apply and wear. There’s nothing more you can ask for from a lipstick. Inspired by Film Noir this matte shade is dark, sexy and ideal for an evening out.
